Tally Tells

Accessibility statement

You should be able to make a book here with a screen reader, with only a keyboard, or with the text turned up large. This is what we do about that, and where we still fall short.

Last updated

The short version

  • We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 AA, without overlay widgets, and last tested the site on October 17, 2026.
  • We design for keyboard use, readable contrast, large tap targets, and animation that stops if you’ve asked your device to reduce motion.
  • Found a barrier? Email hello@tallytells.com and we’ll reply within one business day.

Our commitment

We want anyone buying a book, a parent or a grandparent or an aunt, to be able to make one with us. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, and last tested this site on with keyboard-only use and automated checks (axe and Lighthouse). We haven’t yet tested with a screen reader such as VoiceOver; that’s next. Known gaps are listed below. We don’t use accessibility overlay widgets; we fix the site itself.

What we aim for

  • Pages that work with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring and a “Skip to content” link.
  • Text contrast of at least 4.5:1, and body text of 17px or larger.
  • Tap targets of at least 44 × 44 pixels for buttons, links and question toggles.
  • Visible labels on form fields, and errors explained in words, not just color.
  • Real headings and landmarks, so screen readers can navigate.
  • Decorative art hidden from screen readers, and text descriptions for meaningful images.
  • Animations that stop if your device is set to reduce motion.

What we’re still improving

The illustrated preview pages are pictures. We describe the story text alongside them, but a picture can’t show everything in words. If you’d like the story text read out or sent in another format, write to us.

We review the site as it grows and fix what we find. Your reports help most.
